When my mother was twelve, she married my father. He was twenty eight. I was their sixteenth child. I was born with glaucoma and totally lost my eyesight by the time I was eight years old. I spent my childhood absorbing the sounds and smells of the Orchard, the Italian neighborhood that I grew up in. I also struggled to survive in a family that was riddled with poverty and violence. A few years ago, I began to look back at my life and two important things struck me. First of all, somehow I had survived. Secondly, I realized that I had an incredible story to share. But I didn't know where to begin. My friend and creative partner, Elysa Sunshine, told me to just tell my story and together, we would put it to music. "The Blind Truth" chronicles my early life, the difficulties I had to endure, and how the gift of blindness and my passion for music literally saved my life.
